Heart disease is genetically based. The study of causes through analysis of DNA
of Pietro Delise
Scientific research in the field of genetic heart disease has made great strides. But there is still much to do.
The study of these diseases involves the clinical and molecular biologist. The clinician has in recent years acquired a very sophisticated instruments ranging from the study of cardiac anatomy (with the MRI and CT) evaluation of the electrical properties (with electrophysiological study). The molecular biologist, which parallels the clinical studies the DNA, the tiny filaments that is contained in cells, which is written the program (code) of any part of our body. And it is the defects of these filaments that cause heart disease on a genetic basis.
The Unit of Cardiology in Conegliano collaborates with the Center for Molecular Biology, University of Padova, coordinated by prof. L. Rampazzo and prof. Danieli. The Centre of Padua analyzed blood samples of patients in our area, where we suspect or diagnose these diseases.
This is a complex and expensive. For this reason, our Association has taken the initiative to make contributions to the economic center of Padua promoting solidarity initiatives.
